Adoption lasts a lifetime. In fact, beyond a lifetime. It impacts past, current and future individuals and families in a number of ways. While we often think that adoption is hardest during childhood and adolescence, as we age, life and relationships become more complex. Our patterns and coping mechanisms become more ingrained. All while our place in the world becomes more important to understand and integrate. It is important to hear the voices of adult Adoptees, as much as young Adoptees, so that we can better understand their experiences; perhaps with a chance to do things differently for those yet to walk these paths. A wide range of emotions are expressed in the link below, (Dear Adoption...); many of them are difficult to hear, but they are important to listen to nonetheless. It is also important to listen to those Adoptees who do not speak. Their silence is a reflection of what they can not say, not an indication that they are not impacted. Each individual has their own path and journey. There are themes, but we are all different, as are each of our reactions, soft spots, experiences and relationships.
